Dear Mayor Crotty:

The leadership and members of Chinese American Scholars and Professionals Association of Florida have been ardent supporters of you and your administration because we believe that you have a clear vision for the economic health and development of Orange County. Your strong leadership and vision are in dire need as our local economy continues to be less that optimal. As you are probably aware, Orlando/Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau President Gary Sain and other officials escorted twenty directors from the China Tourist Administration during an October visit to Orlando in order to promote Orlando as a must-see stop. During their one-week visit, the delegation appeared to be swayed by their visit to Disney, among other stops, and a special performance of Chinese artists and entertainers at EPCOT's World Pavilion. This coupled with the dramatic rise of China's middle-class (more than 300 million citizens out of a total population of 1.3 billion) and their eagerness to visit the United States will hopefully translate into more Chinese visitors making Orlando a must-see destination.

Consequently, I am writing to encourage you and your Administration to make a reciprocal visit to China in 2010 to promote business investment and development in Orlando. The CASPAF believes that a delegation lead by you will help foster a strong relationship with the decision-makers in China help to focus their attention on Orlando and Central Florida as valued business partners. Your ability to promote Orlando and Central Florida to the Chinese Government and Chinese business leaders will help build on the forward momentum from the afore-mentioned U.S.-China Tourism Directors Summit in October.

We urge you to include a relationship building visit to China into your agenda for the coming year. Now is the time to further nurture and cultivate these important relationships with a follow up visit to China. A well-planned visit under your leadership is certain to send the message that Orlando and Central Florida are elite international trading and tourism centers. This will dramatically impact the economy of Central Florida in both the near term and for decades to come. Thank you for all you do for your constituents.

Sincerely,

Tanner Y. Liu, Ph.D.
President
